Market Deeping and Nottys

Nottys Coffee and Wine Bar is a real newcomer on the scene of the history of Market Deeping.

People have been living and working in the area known as the Deepings for more than 800 years.

Deeping is a Saxon word for deep fen or low place, and Market Deepings runs adjacent to the river Welland. 

Nottys is literally just a stones throw away from this beautiful river.

The River Welland has always influenced the development of the settlements in and around Market Deeping and provided transport for goods, people, and food like fish, eggs, fowl and eels. 

People have been living and workingthe area known as the Deepings for more than 800 years.

The Deepings is the collective name given to Market Deeping, Deeping St James, Deeping Gate, West Deeping and Deeping St Nicholas (originally Deeping Fen). 

Around 1800, the population of the Deepings was around 2000 people. Today Market Deeping alone has around 2500 househods.

When you leave Nottys. If you walk to your right, through the square where a small parking area is and then turn left onto the Bridge you will be standing over the river Welland.
